BOOKS that are worth your time....
to deepen your companionships

Two things prompted us to search for books with an insatiable appetite:
First, my cat, Remy, was diagnosed with cancer which led me to seek deep spiritual understanding of how I could assist in this passage as well as
understand my own pain of loosing her.

Then, we began rescue and found we needed tools to understand numerous dogs and their behaviors. While dog trainers kept recommending typical books,
we just kept
searching for more understanding, beyond the obvious.

This list is meant to be helpful, inspirational and meaningful. We are always hungry
for more awareness and insight so expect to see new books added to this list, as well as let us know your favorites.   (Click on each book cover to place an order with Amazon.com)

The Little Book of Everyday Soul, is a handbook on how to hear your Soul's guidance in order to take steps like Lillie did to live a more meaningful life.  An Intuitive Coach to professionals, Lillie Goodrich knows the path it takes to unwind the noisy outer influences in order to really hear from your heart.  She's crafted the roadmap for any that want to journey toward their Soul.  Simply written, yet deeply profound, Goodrich is testament that it's worth chasing your dream.  It's possible to catch it and in fact, satisfaction only comes when you live it.

Six o'clock in the morning is the wake-up time for many workers, but not all of them are greeted by 30 dogs in a deafening chorus of hellos.  That's how the day starts for Lillie Goodrich, President and Co-Founder of Glen Highland Farm, a sanctuary that fosters Border Collies.  A morning hello to her own 4 rescued cats, 15 house dogs and then out to the 200-year-old barn to meet 20 more dogs!
No shower, sans make-up, dressed in jeans and a T-shirt, covered by yesterday's muddy paw-prints, her hair tucked in her cap, each morning's commute is about 300 feet heading toward the life she rewrote for herself.  The tidy urban look of matching, tailored clothing and in vogue shoes is long gone.

Once working in Hollywood glamour and NY power worlds, she now resides in rural America on a former dairy farm turned horse farm turned dog farm, leading a simpler life where caring for and cleaning up after dogs is the priority. There's no cell phone reception, no cable TV, only one stop light in town and Wilber is the name of the local bank.  No longer traveling from coast to coast on red-eyes, cruising around in a Lexus, or vacationing in Tahiti, her urban background is now a blur to the importance of what the Farm means to her and to those dogs she saves and the people's lives she touches.  She is now an advocate for Border Collies who have been neglected and abandoned, now in need of new homes.  With her 175-acre non-profit farm, she can be of a lot of help.  Each year, over 150 dogs find their way into her hands and heart.

A calling since age five, she spent her early childhood studying everything and anything species canine.  Hours and hours spent pouring over ever detail of every breed finally came into play, some 40 years later. A once exciting life was surprisingly changed when she opened her home to rescuing Border Collies. Once this experience took hold, she was reconnected to what mattered.
Letting go of everything she'd built was then easy. Her heart had been stirred and her prayers had been answered.  Her Soul was finally in charge.  For the last 17 years, she had pleaded with the greater forces of creation, asking to be 'on purpose', craving the meaningful connection to her role on the planet.  A long journey of successful endeavors just never filled the longing.  It was the animals that satisfied the craving.  The hole was now filled.

Unlike her business colleagues, Goodrich spends her day talking to people about their dogs; helping dogs in shelters; and coordinating the safety of dogs in need.  She believes these furry friends are teachers who willingly choose to help humans learn how to open their hearts.  It happened to her.  It's happened to lots of others that she knows.  It is real and from the seat she has, she is witness to it everyday because she lives in the animal heart.  Her intuitive right brain is operating 24/7.  The linear, left brain logic is now in second position.  If something doesn't feel right or she just doesn't know the answer on a deep level, then it's not real.  The intuitive guidance leads every time.  She tunes in to the dogs, the land and the people who visit and receives the guidance for decisions.  Analysis is long gone.

Watching her with the dogs is like watching a ballet.  They seem to flow together in constant communication, as if four legs and fur are no longer barriers. Goodrich claims it's the knowing on a spirit level that makes the difference.  And, it's that Spirit connection that nourishes her.  She facilitates the dog's healing through hands-on techniques, energetic color work and play.  Not the typical new age talker, Goodrich trusts her heart to lead her to the answers of how to help the dogs and better hear them.
Having met and assisted over 800 dogs to new lives, Goodrich still loves working with humans, too.  In fact, in her Listening to Dogs courses at the farm, she teaches people to tune into the dogs so they can hear what's most important.  Some simple truths like unconditional love; joy; abundance; present moment and excellence...these profound truths are much easier to learn when the dogs help.  Her book has moments of dog teaching laced throughout to help punctuate how the journey of the Soul really works.
Lots of people say they want a more meaningful life.  For Goodrich, that meant letting go of everything that seemed normal, everything she'd built, in favor of what touched her heart.  Today, she'll happily tell all who will listen that her decision gave her the fullest life possible.  Not so logical to everyone else, but perfectly ideal for her
